Sustainability in Mobility

We work with Pitt Mobility to help Pitt students, faculty, and staff find cost-effective and convenient options for their campus commute.

Bike Pitt

Bring your bike to campus! Free long-term indoor bike parking is available to on-campus residents who live in Nordenberg Hall, Litchfield Towers, Quad, and Bouquet Gardens on a first-come-first-serve basis.  There are also other bike parking options available on campus, like bike racks and rentable bike lockers. Visit the Pitt Bike Cave, a student-run DIY bike shop in the Posvar Passage where you can access tools, service support, and connect with the campus biking community.

Buses & Shuttles

Residence halls and University-leased apartments are conveniently located near Pitt Shuttle and Port Authority bus stops, which you can ride for free with your Pitt ID. Find Pitt Shuttle and Port Authority schedules, routes, and apps to make navigating the Pittsburgh region easy.

Carpools

Cut down on the cost of commuting by carpooling with another Pitt employee. The University works with CommuteInfo to provide carpool matching services and lists of available carpool groups to join. Carpools enjoy courtesy parking on campus and riders qualify for pre-tax deductions or reimbursements.

Healthy Ride at Pitt

Healthy Ride, Pittsburgh’s bike share program, is available for free to all faculty, staff, and students on the Pitt Oakland campus. Start enjoying free, unlimited 30-minute rides today!

Within Walking Distance

Oakland is the second most walkable neighborhood in Pittsburgh with numerous shops, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance to campus. More than 50% of students walk to campus. Consider incorporating walks into your daily routine to stay healthy and lower your environmental impact.

Vanpools

Experience a hands-free ride to work by joining a vanpool! Like a carpool, a vanpool is a group of commuters who use a CommuteInfo van to get to and from Oakland. Spanning both Allegheny and its surrounding counties, vanpools offer employees with fixed schedules an economic and low emission alternative to driving their personal vehicles to and from campus.

Zipcars

Pitt students, faculty, and staff are able to use ZipCar, the national car-sharing service, for a reduced rate. Visit the ZipCar for Universities website, search for the University of Pittsburgh, and select your affiliation. Multiple ZipCars of different varieties are available across campus and throughout the city for quick, convenient use when public transportation is not a viable option.
